Artists of Hawai'i 2009

At least 6 of the 64 artists featured in the upcoming Artists of Hawai'i 2009 juried exhibition are members of our department.

Honolulu Academy of Arts. Exhibition dates: May 14-August 16, 2009.
Opening reception May 13, 2009, 6:30-9:30 p.m.
Juror: Laura Hoptman, Senior Curator, New Museum of Contemporary Art, New York, NY.

Klaus Knoll (faculty) & his partner Cella will be showing a print from their Inside/Out series of rooms turned camera obscura. Reflecting the impact of globalization and cultural fusion on personal circumstance, Inside Out deals with displacement, liminality and cultural identity in the lives of Klaus Knoll and Cella, both neither refugees nor migrants or expatriats, rootless all the same. Like many of their projects, Inside Out shares an attention to the built environment, specifically to temporary
architecture and ideas about the use of space.

Russell Sunabe (alum) wins the John Young Award.

Also in the exhibition are Scott Groeniger (faculty), Linda Kane (faculty and alum), Lian Lederman (current MFA) and Allison Uttley (current MFA).
