Fiber Hawaii 2010 Exhibition












Current BA Studio Art student Billie Farrell, MFA Alums Maya Lea Portner, Aaron Padilla, Jacqueline Rush Lee, and BFA Alum Maika'i Tubbs are featured in Fiber Hawaii 2010 Exhibition.
Maika'i Tubbs received the Award of Excellence in Memory of Shore Hodge Lipsher for his piece Memorings, Aaron Padilla received the Crossing Boundaries Award for his piece Herring, and Billie Farrell received Honorable Mention for her piece Kings Wore Capes [pictured above].
Fiber Hawaii 2010 is on exhibit until February 27 at The Arts at Marks Garage, 1159 Nuuanu Ave.

MFA Students in HAA Art Center Faculty/Staff Exhibition













MFA students Jessica Beck , Emily McIlroy, Jennifer Rubin, and Boz Schurr have art work in the Honolulu Academy of Arts - Art Center Faculty & Staff Exhibition. Pictured above is Jennifer Rubin's piece from the exhibition What Team Do You Worship For?
The Art Center Faculty & Staff Exhibition opened on January 8 and will be up until January 29th.

Steve Coy - Solo Exhibition


MFA Alum Steve Coy has a solo exhibition Artificial Geospatial Laboratory opening at Detroit Industrial Projects Detroit, MI. Artificial Geospatial Laboratory is a large installation that combines wall murals, sculpture, and video projections. Coy says " This installation examines real versus perceived or imagined spaces. Using sculptural elements combined with video and wall murals, the work explores ideas about interior and exterior spaces, technology, consumption, and elitism. This installation is inspired by corporate culture, social status, pop-culture, fashion, and architecture."
Artificial Geospatial Laboratory exhibition dates are February 6 - March 6, 2010, opening reception February 6th 6-9 pm.

Scott Groeniger













Assistant Professor in 2-D Digital Imaging, Scott Groeniger is part of an upcoming exhibition Imprint: An Exhibition in Contemporary Printmaking at Target Gallery, Torpedo Art Center in Alexandria Virginia. Imprint is a juried exhibition that examines trends in contemporary printmaking. Imprint exhibition dates are January 21st to February 21st 2010.

Jacqueline Rush Lee













MFA alum Jacqueline Rush Lee will be featured in the upcoming 7th International Fiber Biennial at Snyderman-Works Gallery Philadelphia, PA from February 5th - March 20th of 2010. Jacqueline's piece Anthologia [photo above courtesy of Paul Kodama] was featured in the 2009 September/October Issue of Fiber Arts Magazine and will be featured in Papercraft: Design & Art with Paper 2010.

Mary Babcock and Kanako Nagai featured in Exist-ence


Assistant Professor and Fibers Area Chair Mary Babcock and BFA alum Kanako Nagai both have screenings in Exist-ence: Performance Art Live, Film & Artifact. Exist-ence is occuring January 15th and 16th, 2010 at White Canvas Gallery in Brisbane, Australia.

32nd Annual Graduate Student Exhibition













Sunday January 17th is the opening of the 32nd Annual Graduate Student Exhibition. The exhibition features the recent work of MFA students: Jessica Beck, Megan Bent, Chen Carmi, Roxanne Chasle, Elizabeth Curtis, Dustin Hart, Shannon Leitch, Jason Lowe, Emily McIlroy, Kumi Nakajima, Alyssa Olivier, Jessica Orfe, Jeannie Randall, J. Robert Reed, Jennifer Rubin, Boz Schurr, Katie Small, Chad Steve, Adam Stratton, and Satoshi Takahira. The 32nd Annual Graduate Student Exhibition will be up from January 17th to February 5th. The opening reception is Sunday January 17th from 3:00 - 5:00 pm.

Erika Molyneux















Students in Erika Molyneux's [BFA Alum] digital art course at Sacred Hearts Academy have their work on display in the exhibition Black and White. For their final project Molyneux had students organize every aspect of the exhibition. Black and White is on display at the Hawaii State Library [478 s. King St.] and is up through January 8th. Library hours are Mondays and Wednesdays 10-5 Tuesday, Fridays, and Saturdays 9-5 and Thursdays 9 to 8 pm. Pictured above is an image by student Arsenia Miyai. Please click here to view more images.

Kanako Nagai















BFA Alumni Kanako Nagai's performance video, Performance Art Project- Rice Culture in Hawaii, will be shown at Exist-ence: Performance Art Live and on Film, Two Days of Live and Documented Performance Art! This exhibition, curated by Rebecca Clunn-Cunningham will run on January 15th and 16th in Brisbane, Australia. Kanako will also perform at Performance Art Today, Volume 10 at Nippon International Performance Art Festival [NIPAF] from January 19th and 20th in Tokyo, Japan. This event was organized by internationally acclaimed performance artist Seiji Shimoda.
