Allison Uttley: MFA Thesis Exhibition
MFA student Allison Uttley will have her Masters of Fine Art Thesis Exhibition, Five Feet in Front of the Horizon opening on Sunday April 4, 2010 at the Commons Gallery.
In Five Feet in Front of the Horizon recent Artist in Residence at the Honolulu Academy of Arts, Allison Uttley stages an offbeat version of the 18th century historical panorama. Using screen printing and house paint, Uttley creates a landscape of massive color fields, upon which tiny characters play out their years. Various elements - clouds, butter, giant sunny-side up eggs, mustached men- turn up again and again in different scenarios. The center of the gallery is populated by peculiar larger-than-life balloons. Hovering and menacing they serve as Uttley's persistent memories that haunt her crooked horizon.
Five Feet in Front of the Horizon will be on display from April 4 -9, 2010, opening reception April 4 from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m.
Commons Gallery hours are M-F 10:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. and Sunday 12:00 - 5:00 p.m.
