Congratulations to Kate Lingley, Assistant Professor of Chinese Art History. Kate is a 2009 recipient of the UH Manoa Chancellor’s Citation for Meritorious Teaching.

Kate is in her 6th year with the department. She was educated at Harvard University, the University of Chicago and Peking University. Her research has focused on the social history of art in the early medieval period, particularly on issues of self-representation and the patronage of Buddhist sculpture. This has led her to a broader interest in costume, personal adornment and the representation of the self in all periods of pre-modern China.

With Gallery Director Lisa Yoshihara, Kate co-curated the Excelling the Work of Heaven exhibition as well as co-authored the catalog and website.

Glass Program hosts Mid Pac Elementary School

Glass Program hosts Mid Pac Elementary School
Beginning Glass students Damion Rosburgh and Eric Klevansky shown in photos working with the children.

Leigh Oshiro (Mid Pac teacher) writes, "When we got back to our classroom a group of boys went straight to the sandbox and began to pretend to blow glass. They used shovels as their poles and pretended there was hot melted glass at the end. They would stick it into an oven and turn the shovel. They would then bring it out, roll it, blow it, or put it in a bucket a water. Truly amazing."
