Jacqueline Rush Lee

Jacqueline Rush Lee is an Anglo-Irish sculptor who lives and works in Hawaii.  Her artworks have been featured in numerous blogs, magazines, books and international press, some of which include: BOOK ART: Iconic Sculptures and Installations Made from Books; PAPERCRAFT: Design and Art With Paper; PLAYING WITH BOOKS: The Art of Upcycling, Deconstructing, and Reimagining the Book, among others. She exhibits her artwork nationally and internationally and her work is in private and public collections.

Jacqueline has been invited to Mexico City to present her art work and host an international workshop on creating sculptures out of books at the 8th International Symposium on Books, Writing and Typography at Escuela Nacional de Artes Plasticas, Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico. Recognized and published for her work, Jacqueline will also be one of 26 international artists featured in, "Art Made with Books," Chronicle Press, by writer and former SFMOMA editor Laura Heyenga, release date 2013.

Out of Print
She is currently showing 7 of her sculptures in a 9 person group invitational exhibition entitled "Out of Print" at the Bakersfield Museum, CA. The exhibition remains up until November 25th, with further information related to the exhibit on her Facebook site.

Soundmoves

BFA alumni, Jeff Kurosaki along with Tara Pelletier will be presenting Soundmoves, a new project we developed this summer at Sculpture Space in Utica, NY. It is a performance piece with video, sculpture and music that tells the creation myth of the sun from a "shadow snake". It is told through a self-contained, two-person band and nomadic sculpture retro-fitted onto two hand trucks. Soundmoves will be at Plymouth Street between Adams and Main on Friday, September 28-30 at 6:30PM.

Reem Bassous and Maya Portner

Negotiating Dystopia is a collaborative installation between Reem Bassous and Maya Portner. The artists create an imagined city, loosely based on cities from their respective heritage. The exhibition space is transformed with a process that questions the boundaries of drawing, through direct application on the wall, layering, cutting and forming paper in relief.

These two artists find overlaps in their commitment to process, and have found artistic collaboration as a way of understanding and reconciling differences in each of their aesthetic, conceptual and cultural points-of-view.

There will be an opening reception on Thursday, September 27, from 6-9PM. Negotiating Dystopia runs from September 24 to October 11 at the Honolulu Museum of Art School, Mezzanine Gallery, 1111 Victoria Street, Honolulu, HI 96814.
