Diane Chen's art is also featured in north shore, an exhibition of ceramics, collage, painting, and photography, along with artists Kathy Coakley, Christian Gotfredson, Karin Rosenthal, Julia von Metzsch, Curated by Christina Godfrey.  On view May 18 - Sept 7, at McGladrey Art Gallery in Charleston, MA.

James Jack news


James Jack



(b. 1979) is currently pursuing a doctorate at Tokyo University of Arts in Studio Art. Solo exhibitions of his work have been held at TAMA Gallery in New York City, Beppu-Wiarda Gallery in Portland Oregon and the Honolulu Museum of Art.

Selected group exhibitions include The Persistence of Line at Kentler Drawing Center in New York City, Yokohama Boogie at ZAIM in Yokohama, Art & Ecology at the Portland Art Center as well as upcoming exhibitions in Tokyo, Yokohama and the Setouchi International Art Festival in 2013.

James Jack will participate in an upcoming meta-event citydrift in New York and has just released a video document on his artwork Sunset House in preparation for the Setouchi International Art Festival in 2013.

A new work by James Jack Painting the streets on a sunny day consists of performers painting streets in Brooklyn with water. The work is based on a childhood memory Jack has of water evaporating off cement on a summer day. It will be included as part of citydrift: towards a new urban poetic held from September 7-9th.

Uncaged

 

Uncaged, a collaboration by Hawaii-based artists Mary Babcock, Mark Kadota, Robert Reed and Rex Vlcek, will broadcast live from the UH Gallery on Aug 31, 11-12 noon.

Uncaged is one of 24 international "relay stations" included in time/zones, the cartographic performance project of Loose Combo (http://www.losecombo.de), created in celebration of the 100th anniversary of John Cage's birthday. 

“Within a precisely structured duration of thrice eight hours the installation [time/zones]creates frames and spaces for live performances on the spot in Berlin and a variety of live and/or pre-produced contributions from all over the world that are being broadcast within time/zones.”

Uncaged will be performed live in the UH Gallery and incorporated into the time/zone performance / concert / installation at the Akademie der Künste in Berlin via live-stream.

Video Choreo

Video Choreo, the University of Hawai‘i Art Gallery’s opening exhibition of the fall season, brings together four emerging artists whose video works explore major concepts in dance and choreography. 
 Each artist works in diverse media, but makes use of video and moving image to 
capture sublime, playful, rhythmic and mesmerizing aspects of the varied performative subjects they explore and document. Featured artists are Shaun Gladwell (Australia), Rashaad Newsome (USA), Yukihiro Taguchi (Japan, Germany), and Ignacio Uriarte (Spain, Germany). The show runs from August 26 - September 21.

UH at JCC
