Draw-a-thon at Arts at Marks Garage

On February 5th [First Friday Art Walk], Arts at Marks Garage hosted a Draw- a- thon to raise funds for the Drawing and Painting Program. Sixty students volunteered their time for the event. Outside students were showcasing their talents by offering portrait drawing for a suggested donation of $5. Inside students and community members were offered the space to practice their life drawing skills. Special thanks to Christopher Kendrick-Stanford, HRH Fleur, and Thomas Galliato who volunteered their time modeling for the event.
With enough students on the wait list to fill two sections of Advanced Drawing I and Intermediate Life Drawing II, but not enough money to cover modeling costs, there was a goal of raising $834. Exceeding expectations, close to $1,500 was raised by the end of the night.

Corinne Kamiya

BFA Alum Corinne Kamiya has new work in an upcoming group exhibition: Distimacy, at Camel Art Space in Brooklyn, NY.
"The works in this exhibition on one level or another engages distance and intimacy, while occasionally embodying both. In all of these works distance is what we have when we come to the work, intimacy is what we give to it by participating in it and internalizing it. All of this takes place in space, through the eyes, and in the mind. The artists in this show deploy their visions within this field and bring to it a range of ideas about perception, meaning, content, and form." says exhibition curator Matt Murphy.
Distimacy exhibition dates are February 12 -28th 2010, and the opening reception is February 12 from 6 -9 pm.
