MFA and BFA Alums Honored

UHM Art Department Alumni Ka-Ning Fong [MFA], Norman Graffam [MFA], Linda Kane [MFA], Marc Thomas [BFA], and Shige Yamada [MFA] were among the artists represented and honored at the Honolulu Japanese Chamber of Commerce 31st Annual " Commitment to Excellence" Art Exhibition.

Ka-Ning Fong received Best in Show [Award of Excellence] for "Crossing River". In the 2-Dimensional category Marc Thomas received 3rd place for "Untitled 11", Norman Graffam received 2nd place for "LIZ" and Linda Kane received 1st place for " Long After". Shige Yamada was the featured artist in the exhibition.

Ka-Ning Fong and Linda Kane are also both Lecturers at UH Manoa in the Drawing and Painting Program. Norman Graffam is a lecturer at Windward Community College.





Alumni Update : Nate Chung


UHM Art Department Alumni Nate Chung [ BFA 2005 Sculpture/ Print Media] has just received his MFA from The School of The Art Institute of Chicago. Upon graduating Nate was also awarded the James Nelson Raymond Fellowship.
His thesis piece was recently exhibited at Snowflake/Citystock in St. Louis, and over the summer Nate was working for Architreasures as a Project Artist creating art based community development.

Allison Uttley's work featured at Art@Town Series 4


















Allison Uttley current MFA student has her work featured at Art@Town Series 4 " Romanesque to Retro" at Town Restaurant.
Allison's work is a series of mixed media prints that deal with childhood memories.
Town Restaurant is located at 3435 Waialae Ave [corner of 9th and Waialae Avenues].

Malia Salmon Featured in Upcoming Exhibition


Malia Salmon who is currently working on her BFA Photography at University of Hawaii at Manoa, recently had the self portrait shown here accepted into the Faces of Hawaii Exhibition.

Faces of Hawaii is a juried photo portrait competition and will culminate in a gallery exhibition in November at the Wailoa Center in Hilo and a published work of all the portraits that were selected.

Jacqueline Rush Lee in Fiber Arts and Papercraft



Alum Jacqueline Rush Lee has artwork featured in the 2009 September/October issue of FIBER ARTS Magazine. Anthologia (artwork pictured above) is featured under the “Re-Visionaries” Sampling section while Flutter and Unfurled are featured on the website.

Also nine selections from Jacqueline Rush Lee’s book sculpture series from 2000 - 2008 are featured in PAPERCRAFT: Design and Art With Paper, Gestalten Press, Germany. PAPERCRAFT is an extensive survey on the insatiable trend of innovative art and design work crafted from paper.
